To Maereio Mykonos is a small and cozy restaurant located in the heart of Mykonos town, and it is a true gem for those who appreciate traditional Greek cuisine. The atmosphere is rustic and charming, with exposed brick walls and wooden beams that create an inviting and warm ambiance.
As a food enthusiast, I always love discovering new restaurants and trying out their best dishes. During my recent trip to Mykonos, I had the opportunity to visit To Maereio, a popular restaurant that offers traditional Greek dishes. After reading through the reviews on Tripadvisor, I was excited to try some of the best dishes that this restaurant had to offer. Here is my extensive review of the best dishes at To Maereio.
We started off our meal with some classic Greek appetizers, including the tzatziki and fava. The tzatziki was thick and creamy, with just the right amount of garlic and lemon to give it a zesty flavor. The fava, made from yellow split peas, was smooth and savory, with a hint of sweetness from the caramelized onions on top. We also tried the saganaki, which is a traditional Greek dish made with fried cheese. The saganaki at To Maereio was perfectly crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, and the tangy flavor of the cheese was complemented nicely by the sweet honey drizzled on top.
For our main course, we ordered the lamb chops and the grilled octopus. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection, with a juicy and tender texture and a delicious smoky flavor from the grill. The accompanying sides of roasted potatoes and sautéed vegetables were also cooked to perfection and added a nice balance to the meal. The grilled octopus was also a standout dish, with a tender texture and a smoky flavor that was perfectly complemented by the tangy lemon sauce on top. The dish was served with a side of fresh greens, which added a nice crunch to the overall texture of the dish.
Another dish we tried was the moussaka, which is a traditional Greek dish made with layers of eggplant, potatoes, and ground beef. The moussaka at To Maereio was rich and hearty, with a perfectly balanced combination of flavors and spices. The dish was also perfectly portioned, with just the right amount of each ingredient to make it filling without being overwhelming.
To top off our meal, we ordered the baklava, which is a traditional Greek dessert made with layers of phyllo pastry, honey, and nuts. The baklava at To Maereio was perfectly flaky and sweet, with a generous amount of honey and nuts in each bite. It was the perfect way to end a delicious meal.
Overall, I was extremely impressed with the quality and flavor of the dishes at To Maereio. The restaurant truly embodied the spirit of traditional Greek cuisine, and the food was clearly prepared with care and attention to detail. The service was also exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff who were happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. I would highly recommend To Maereio to anyone visiting Mykonos who is looking for an authentic Greek dining experience with excellent food and service.
